COMMUNITY AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

Each year, New Waverly ISD is required to evaluate the district and campuses in the eight components of CaSE:

  • Fine Arts

  • Wellness and Physical Education

  • Community and Parental Involvement

  • 21st Centrality Workforce Development

  • Second Language Acquisition

  • Digital Learning Environment

  • Dropout Prevention Strategies

  • Education Programs for Gifted and Talented

For each component, the committee of staff and parents assigned the rating of exemplary, recognized, acceptable, or unacceptable. Then, the committee assigned an overall rating to the district and campuses.

Beginning next year, each campus and district will be evaluated based on the following components and

New Waverly ISD

1. Community and Parental Involvement

Criteria:

  • Programs engaging parental/community involvement (meet the teacher, food drive)

  • College/Career Fair Days

  • Education partnerships with community members/groups/business/charities, etc.

  • “Meet the Teacher” opportunities

  • Participation in County Shows/Fairs (arts, metal projects, etc.)

  • Assemblies and award programs open to the public

  • Communication with parents/community via Facebook, Twitter, Parent portals, etc.

  • Community service projects (beautification projects, food drives, clothing drives)

  • Required posting notices including IEP’s, Personal Graduation, 504 Plans


2. Dropout Prevention Strategies

Criteria:

  • Resources aimed at supporting technology (financial/personnel/infrastructure/etc.)

  • Staff completing prof. development using technology, online courses, etc.

  • Staff completing prof. dev. with technology as a tool to assist student learning

  • Use of technology to assist students in credit recovery

  • Readily available computer access

  • CTE course availability related to digital learning

  • Use of Social media for communication between students, teachers, and parents

  • Internet safety


3. Digital Learning Environment

Criteria

  • End of year programs including parents highlighting various successes of students

  • Anti-bullying activities, programs, lessons, etc.

  • Programs and initiatives geared to increasing communication with parents

  • Documenting Personal Graduation Plans, 504 plan implementation

  • Truancy prevention due to high absentee rate

  • Transition programs to next level

  • Availability of extracurricular activities/after school activities

  • School culture/climate initiatives

  • Activities related to college or career/vocational fair

New Waverly High School

1. Wellness and Physical Education

Criteria:

  • Participation in school breakfast & lunch programs

  • Availability of school nurses

  • Participation and results on Fitnessgram

  • Fundraising for causes

  • Field Day

  • Positive Role Models – student athletes, alumni, college athletes, prof. athletes

  • Compliance with annual SHAC requirements (report to the board)

  • Red Ribbon activities

  • CPR Training provided to staff and/or students

  • Participation in health fairs, free vaccination clinics/other health services
