Dear New Waverly ISD Parents and Families,
If your child took the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) earlier this spring you can now access their results. The state assessment is one of many ways to measure student learning. Teachers will use STAAR results along with other information to support your child’s learning in the new school year. You will be able to access your child’s STAAR results using one or both of the methods below.
Accessing STAAR/EOC Results Through NWISD’s Parent Portal:
Log into your parent portal account (NWISD’s PARENT PORTAL). After logging in, you will see an icon labeled Texas Assessment. This will take you directly to your child’s STAAR results, which will include detailed information for each test question, identifying your child’s strengths as well as areas where your child may need additional support.
Accessing STAAR/EOC Results Through Texas Education Agency Family Portal:
If you do not have access to NWSID’s Parent Portal, you may still access your student’s results through TEA’s Family Portal. Visit www.texasassessment.gov and sign on using your child’s unique student access code, date of birth and first name. If you do not know your child’s unique student access code, click on the “How to look up my access code?” link under Information and Support. You will need their PEIMS ID (social security number), date of birth and legal first name. After looking up your child’s access code, you will be able to directly access their STAAR results. Should you need assistance, please contact your child’s campus.
Families have shared that seeing which questions their child got right and wrong has been the most useful. You will also see easy-to-use resources to help your child focus on the skills they most need help with and can work on at home. When you meet with your child’s teacher in the fall, use this information along with your own observations from the past year and your child’s grades to create a plan to help your child succeed.
For more information about STAAR, visit the Texas Assessment website. Should you need assistance, please contact your child’s campus.

Beginning in 1971, a U.S. District Court case in the District of Columbia, Mills v. Board of Education, ruled it unlawful to deny exceptional children, including those with mental and learning disabilities, publicly funded educational opportunities. Court cases like this led to the 1975 Education for All Handicapped Children Act. President Gerald Ford signed the legislation into law on November 29th, 1975. The federal legislation required states that accept federal money to provide equal access to children with disabilities. In 1986, legislators added protections to support parents and educators in creating an education plan for children with disabilities. Then, in 1990, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act was renamed the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and improved access for all children with developmental delay. Through the years, the act has been enhanced to improve services and standards throughout the educational system.
New Waverly ISD recognizes the awesome progress that has been made in special education. We will continue to work with our amazing educators, support staff and families to support our Bulldogs!

This morning Bus 77 was involved in a minor accident. No students were hurt and only a few students were still on the bus. Parents of those students are being directly contacted. NWISD driver was not at fault. Thankfully, no one was hurt and even bus damage was minimal.
